Book Featuring Carriacou Traditional Boat Building to Be Launched in Antigua.

Two new books Entitled “CARRIACOU SLOOPS Vols. I & II “ are been launched in Antigua today as part of the 2008 Antigua Classic Regatta, the launch party for new books is been held at Antigua Yacht Club Marina today Wednesday April 16th, from 6-8pm.

The event will be held onboard the 8 attending traditional sloops and will include music, a slideshow presentation of “VANISHING WAYS & GENESIS" and a shot of JACK IRON (Carriacou’s Traditional Rum) for all!

The books were written by Seaman Alexis Andrew from Antiguia and are mostly a photography book on the Windward Sloops.  Alexis in describing the books says “it is a collection that I shot over a period of 8 years sailing, fishing, racing and building boats with the men of Windward.” 

A number of Traditional vessels built in Carriacou and Petite Martinique will be participating in the 2008 Antigua Class Regatta which got started on April 15th. They include:

Genesis, Jambalala, Summer Wind, Summer Cloud, Savy and a new vessel launch about two weeks ago in Windward.

The Carriacou Regatta committee has extended congratulations to Alexis on the Launch of his books saying that the launch will certainly go a long way in promoting the indigenous boat building Industry in Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Alexis is the owner and Captain of the boat ‘Genesis’ which was built in Carriacou.
