EMILY PUT MARGETA-O OUT OF FESTIVALOne of the prettiest boats to complete in the annual regatta festival will be out of the sailing fiesta this year. The large sloop Margeta-O, was badly damaged by the high winds which was associated with hurricane Emily over the course of last week Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The white sloop was one of four boats in the windward harbour which were taken ashore run a ground by the vicious and aggressive wind. However, the Margeta-O, sustained the most damage as it was banked on a pile of sea defence stones which are along the Windward road. One side of the boat was badly battered against the huge boulders. Early Thursday morning residents in the area worked tirelessly to remove it from the area. Owner and Captain, Cyril “Uncle C” Compton, said that this is unfortunate as they would not be able to participate in this year’s 40th anniversary of the festival which they were anxiously looking forward to. He added that they had only recently received a new suit of sail for the Margeta-O.Emily Put Margeta-O Out Of Festival – by Rawle Paterson |
