Vernique Noel regains Ms. Aquaval Crown for Carriacou
After a long and suffering seven year drought, Carriacouans are now basking in celebration as the new holders of the prestigious regional Miss Aquaval crown, thus ensuring that the crown would not have to cross the seas for at least one year.
17 year old Vernique Noel of Belmont blended her beauty and brains successfully to proudly cop the title from the field of eight contestants before a packed Hillsborough tennis court on Saturday night.
Appearing in position number three, Vernique won by scoring 240 points. She also copped the individual section of best talent entitled the CSME” and the most intelligent contestant.
The first runner-up position went to Miss St. Vincent, Danielle Ollivierre, who totaled 235.5 points.
She walked away with prizes as most Photogenic contestant and most elegant evening gown entitled Dream.
The second runner up position went to Miss Trinidad, Sharlene Alexander, with 223 points. The other contestants were Anika Phillip of Grenada who won the
Best fitted swimwear called Caribbean Light, Nekisha Adams of Union Island, Geanelle Deroche of Petite Martinique, ZuZanne Marshall of Barbados and Abiola Vance of Tobago.
Vernique, who was sponsored by the Carriacou Regatta Committee, was crowned by last year’s winner, Kimberly Fleary of Trinidad.
Trophies were presented by President General of the Committee, Dexter Leggard.
Swamped by family, friends and well wishers, a teary eyes of joy, Vernique says she was elated to emerge the winner and promised to use her reign to be an even more shining role model in society.
Vernique, who last year created educational history here when she secured 14 CXC passes with eight distinctions, was full of praise for all while reminding everyone that, in everything, God comes first.
Her chaperons, Louise Joseph and Yolande Placid, expressed delight at Vernique’s victory.
It was by far the highest quality Miss Aquaval show ever to be staged in the 11-year-old history of the event.
Full praise must go to Dexter Lendore, who is charged with the responsibility for that aspect of the festival. Carriacou previously copped the title in 1995 through Caroline Marshall and in 1998 through Ackayda Coy.
