IT WAS A SUCCESSFUL FESTIVAL: LEGGARD
Posted on 01.10.06
Although concerned with the small participation in the sloops category, President General of the Carriacou Regatta Committee, Dexter Leggard, has hailed the just ended celebrations as one which can be ranked among the most successful ever to be staged in the 41 year old history of the festival.
Leggard pointed out that they are very concerned that only three boats competed in the large sloop division and none in the small category.
However, he said, despite this disappointment the festival was one of all round success. Leggard, in this his seventh year at the helm, noted that there were over 40 boats which ply the waters of Hillsborough on Regatta Sunday and Monday.
The competition, he added, was keenly contested which, according to him, generated much public interest.
Looking at the onshore activities, Leggard said that the various shows were of a high standard and pointed to the Miss Aquaval as the best in its 11 year old history.
The work of his committee to get the Hillsborough Tennis Court ready for the major events was the hallmark of what he says are a dedicated group who is always willing to bend backwards to provide the best environment for its patrons.
The hundred of visitors, he says, represents the volume of promotion to mark the festival abroad.
He added that they will soon conduct a post mortem, follow by the almost immediately commencement of planning for next year’s 42nd anniversary of this aquatic festival.
