42nd Carriacou Regatta Festival Posted on 01.07.0742 years and going strong... The upcoming 42nd anniversary of the “Granddaddy” of all regattas would be showcased from July 29th – August 6th 2007 (the weekend Aug 3rd -6th are the boat racing days). Come celebrate a true traditional workboat festival which features the art of boat building; a tradition handed down by the Scottish and Irish ancestors who lived on the island. The richness of its tradition and culture, the attitude of its people, the scenic landscape and tropical clear waters are the perfect ingredients for a Caribbean holiday on Carriacou the sister island of Grenada. Participating workboats are expected from the neighboring Grenadines to include Bequia, Canouan, Mayreau, Union Island, Petite Martinique and Grenada. Traditional boats are also coming from Tobago and Antigua for three days of sailing competition. Another main feature of the festival is the Miss Aquaval Queen Show with contestants representing Trinidad, Tobago, Barbados, St. Lucia, Grenada, and St. Vincent and the grenadines.<Read More> |

Margeta-O Posted on 03.04.06One of the prettiest boats to complete in the annual regatta festival will be out of the sailing fiesta this year. The large sloop Margeta-O, was badly damaged by the high winds which was associated with hurricane Emily over the course of last week Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The white sloop was one of four boats in the windward harbour which were taken ashore run a ground by the vicious and aggressive wind. However, the Margeta-O, sustained the most damage as it was banked on a pile of sea defence stones which are along the Windward road.<Read More> |
REGATTA PROMOTION Posted on 28.03.06“A big success” were the words used to describe the trip to New York by the two member delegation of the Regatta Committee. Lendore and Leggard returned to the country this weekend after a two-week promotional trip to the Big Apple. The trip, which was made possible by the Grenada Board of Tourism, was used to enlighten the Carriacouans there on plans for the 2005 40th Anniversary of the festival. <Read More> |
Traditional Boats Posted on 28.03.06A workshop on Traditional Workshop Regatta Management held in Carriacou on 28 and 29 November 2002 was attended by participants from Bequia, Canouan, Mayreau, Carriacou, Gouyave (Grenada) and Tobago. The workshop was sponsored by the Caribbean Programmed for Economic Competitiveness (CPEC) and the Government of Grenada as part of Grenada’s community-based Nautical Heritage Project, and was hosted by the Grenada Tourist Board. <Read More> |
